Welcome to Nursery. Our class is Scheffler class.

  • Mr Larcombe - Class Teacher
  • Mrs Bashford- Teaching Assistant
  • Miss Peters - Teaching Assistant

We have had a very promising start to the year! The children have shown a great deal of resilience with their settling in and we are starting to see some lovely little friendships forming. For the first few weeks we concentrated on settling in and exploring the classroom and outside area. We have been getting used to all of the new routines that happen throughout the nursery and the children are showing good progress.

Our topic this term was ‘All about me’. Our first activity was to create and bring in a ‘Comfort Box’ from home. The children were then able to share and talk about it to small groups. We have developed the ability to sit for short periods of time, listening to and joining in with stories/songs. We then brought in family photos and in small groups we talked about our families, looking at their similarities and differences.

During Expressive Arts and Design we created our own family pictures. We used mirrors, stencils and a range of mark making tools to experiment with. We experimented with colour mixing paint, making some Autumn colours before making pumpkin pictures. We Also developed our fine motor skills while cutting and sticking. Using these skills we created our very own Rainbow fish, while looking at taking turns and sharing (Just as the Rainbow fish does in the story).

In Maths we have started to explore quantity by comparing groups and talking about less and more. We have also been looking at patterns and sorting into groups of colour, shape and size.

We have started to learn some new songs and group games as well as identify the days of the week during our carpet times.

For the last week of term we will be looking at the changes that autumn brings and the events that happen during this season. We will also be looking at sounds in our environment and being able to listen out for them.

We are looking forward to seeing how the children will progress in their learning next term.
