Classes

Welcome to Nursery. Our class is Cardiff class.

  • Miss C Richardson - Class Teacher
  • Mrs Dhooper - Teaching Assistant
  • Mrs Bashford- Teaching Assistant

We are halfway through our Nursery Learning Journey and we are so proud of our children. Their confidence has grown and grown as every week goes by.

They have become trainee chefs, making yummy sandwiches for their class friends. Some of our grownups have said that they have been inspired to make them at home, too.

Our Inspiration Day was fabulous. Treasure is our Spring topic and our ever supportive parents and carers assisted the children to arrive dressed as fearsome pirates; they were singing and dancing to sea shanties and creating their own treasure maps. Over the past few weeks, they have created junk modelling pirate ships, complete with a mast and Jolly Roger flag. Giant cardboard boxes were great hiding places and the children made a large pirate ship out of them, to sit inside.

In Letters and Sounds, we have been busy exploring noises at school and home and we are discovering length and matching numerals in Maths.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, the children cut triangle shapes for scales to cover the dragon’s head. After excitedly, listening to the story of the animals’ race, they drew the animals all over a sheet, went outside and hid under the sheet and then walked along doing a dragon dance.

So much learning to write about and so little space. Watch this page for our next adventures!

Our Reception classes are:

  • London Class - Mrs Duff
  • Edinburgh Class - Mrs Chaplin

Reception have had a great first Spring term. The children all came back refreshed after their Christmas break and engaged in our fun inspiration day all to do with our new topic, Transport. The children enjoyed looking at, washing and even sitting inside the grown-ups cars! We have been busy learning about different modes of transport and reading lots of books e.g. The Naughty Bus, Oi! Get off Our Train and Goodnight Spaceman. The children have been attending their weekly sessions down the Dell and have been climbing, exploring and practicing being imaginative. We have also learned about Chinese New Year and how this is celebrated by some people. We learnt all about the story of the great race and what animals we are! We are looking forward to the next Spring term and cannot quite believe we have just hit the half way mark in our first year at school!

Welcome to Year 1. Our classes are:

  • Madrid class - Mrs Garlick
  • Barcelona class - Mrs Harry
Since Christmas Year 1 have been studying the IPC topic of I’m Alive! During English we have immersed ourselves in all things Croc and Bird by Alexis Deacon. We have learned about different animals and their diets, their habitats and their life cycles. We have brushed up on some technical vocabulary including omnivore and oviparous! We created and painted our own papier-mâché eggs.  we concluded this unit with a fantastic trip to Godstone Farm where we were able to pond-dip, look for mini-beasts, get up and close and personal with the animals and even ride on the tractor! We attended a salad workshop as part of our unit was based around healthy eating. We had a salad competition and the winning team “silly salads” will have their salad available during lunch service.  We brushed up on our art skills drawing cross sections of citrus fruits. In maths we have concentrated on number. We have practised addition and subtraction but really got to grips with how numbers are made up and different ways of representing them. We have also introduced TTRockstars as we begin to work on our times tables.

We can’t wait to see what the next half term has in store for us!

Welcome to Year 2. Our classes are:

  • Sydney Class - Mrs. Matthews
  • Melbourne Class - Miss Jenkins

For our Spring 1 topic year 2 found out all about food in our IPC topic “We are what we eat.” We planted our own tomato seeds and went on a trip to Hall place to find out all about how other vegetables are grown. We also explored the greenhouse plants and went on a tree trail to find 8 different types of tree!

Within Science we also found out about different food groups and what is needed to have a balanced diet. We enjoyed tasting different foods from each food group during our inspirational day, though were not keen on the kidney beans!

In English we read the story of “The secret garden” and wrote our own versions using our own character names and ideas. We also wrote letters to Mary’s uncle from the story asking him what life was like in England.

For Maths we used arrays to help us with our times tables and division facts. We also took part in a traffic survey and presented our results in a bar chart, tally chart and pictogram.
